The 'tidak apa' attitude

January and February came and go now it’s March. Months had passed and despite the recent Lahad Datu intrusion headlines that put my beloved state Sabah onto the limelight, the town talks remain “When is the parliament going to be dissolved”.

It comes naturally that the newspaper, radios, TVs, internet are now full of political persuasion and agenda as the present government trying to hold their seat for another term and the opposition trying hard to persuade the rakyat to give them chances.

I remember reading sometimes ago about a philosophy professor parable on the important things in life – An empty mayonnaise jar, filled with rocks, pebbles and sand.
The rocks represent the important things – your family, your partner, your health and your children – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter – like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else- the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first there will be no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes with life.

I couldn’t agree more but be caution not to assume that this year election is like the sand, the small stuff. The one you couldn’t care less.

Many of us had long live in our comfort zone because we were never the oppress, never the minority, never the hard core poor, well, trust me if you are reading this blog you most probably never experience the state of living in the slum. The 'Tidak apa pa tu' attitude thus remains~as long as it's not me so I'll be just fine.

Have we ever take time to glimpse of what the future might hold after the election ~ the economic, the social, the system, the demographic and the policy. Honestly, I never did. But, this year, this election, it’s just different.

If you couldn’t be bother to at least learn about the candidate that will take stand in your constitution, the party manifestos, the truth and yes, the lies that always come along with politics. Then, you and me ~we, have only ourselves to blame.

Let us always remember that at its root, democracy means "rule by the people"…whether we believe it or not, truth and justice will prevail
